Saudi Women Find an Unlikely Role Model: Oprah

For millions of American viewers, Oprah is a charismatic talk show host to tune into for entertainment. For a growing Saudi audience, Oprah is much more – she is an example of a woman who rose from poverty and abuse. These women finally see acknowledgment for the abuses they face in their own society. The show makes them believe them that their issues can be discussed and one day addressed. Saudi women relate to the hardships of Oprah’s past, and this common ground establishes hope for a better future.
